Yorkshire Dance Provides the Following Resources for ArtistsInformation Sharing

- Yorkshire Dance runs a free e-mail list which is used to disseminate information on auditions, workshops, performance opportunities, teaching opportunities, movement related study opportunities, funding and much more. To join simply e-mail projects@yorkshiredance.com with your contact details.
- The Yorkshire Dance centre also has an artists notice board in the foyer, which contains information on auditions, employment opportunities, funding and general news.
Standby Space Scheme
- Standby Space is an ideal opportunity for Yorkshire-based artists to use one of our three studios to rehearse and explore new ideas for free (see Facility Hire for dimensions and images of the studios).

- To register as a Standby User, artists must come along to the Yorkshire Dance Centre fill in the relevant form and provide their own photograph for the Standby User file. Artists can then call from 24 hours in advance to book any studio space which may be available. Standby space is subject to availability. Please contact Reception on 0113 243 9867 for more information.
Choreographic Platform
- Established in 1996, the Choreographic Platform is part of Yorkshire Dance's professional development programme for regional artists. Two Choreographic Platforms take place every four months, usually at the Yorkshire Dance Centre and at one other venue in the Yorkshire region, such as the Horncastle Building in Hull. The Platforms are a chance for dancers or choreographers from the Yorkshire Region to take advantage of free rehearsal space and perform experimental ideas to a supportive audience. An important part of the platform is feedback and if chosen to take part, you will receive feedback from arts professionals is a structured and safe environment.
To participate in a Choreographic Platform artists must complete an application form about their ideas. A blind panel will then choose around 8 artists to take part. They are not given your name or address and therefore make decisions based only on your proposal and the originality of your proposed work. We encourage a wide variety of styles and backgrounds. The work can be finished or in progress - as long as it is interesting we don’t mind! Pieces should be no longer than 10 minutes.
- Application forms are available from the Yorkshire Dance Centre. It is important that all interested parties meet the application deadline, as no applications will be considered once the deadline has passed.
Residencies
We offer artists the opportunity of free studio space over an extended period of time, enabling them to research, develop and create work. Anyone is welcome to apply for a residency with Yorkshire Dance by simply submitting a proposal outlining the project, the amount of time required and some idea of dates. The Director and Projects Co-ordinator will assess the residency proposal on its artistic merits and benefit to Yorkshire Dance.
- If an artist is successful they are usually offered rehearsal space, and sometimes advice and guidance if requested. In return, artists in residence often offer to teach a professional class or open up a company class, and sometimes show their work at the end of their stay. For more information regarding residencies please contact our Sarah Shead, Projects Co-ordinator on 0113 243 9867, or e-mail projects@yorkshiredance.com.
